Ottawa Is On A "Roll"

What can we say about "Pottawa"?

First, we're proud to be a part of bringing Ottawa closer together, one toke at a time... Splifftastic.ca's a "joint" venture in Canada's capital!

Secondly, we owe our readers our sincere thanks and appreciation for stopping in and contributing. Thank you, all!

So how did Splifftastic.ca get started? It started as just another "blog" out there in the ocean of blogs... Although I'm not the stoner-est of stoners, I appreciate a good buzz and trying new stuff, especially GOOD STUFF.

So we kept it local, to start, and started checking out local spots, seeing what's out there, sharing it on here. The rest is history.

We're one toke closer to putting Ottawa on the map.

Many things put Ottawa on "the map" already, but something that typically doesn't come to mind when thinking about Canada's capital... Marijuana.

Why not? It was on Parliament Hill, in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, that impressive crowds gathered every 20th of April to protest for the legalization of marijuana.

What started as peaceful rallies quickly grew into national events. Every year on April 20th (4/20), the front lawn of Parliament Hill filled with advocates, activists, artists, students, and everyday citizens. The message was clear: it was time to change Canada’s outdated marijuana laws.

Long before legalization came in 2018, Ottawa's 4/20 gatherings were both symbolic and strategic. The location—right at the doorstep of Canada's lawmakers—sent a strong signal. The movement was peaceful but persistent, and year after year, it gained momentum and significance.

These events weren’t just about lighting up. They were about education, awareness, and the power of civic participation. Booths handed out information about cannabis benefits and reform. Local artists performed, speakers took the mic, and a cloud of smoke hovered above it all—impossible to ignore.

When legalization finally came into effect on October 17, 2018, many credited these rallies and the voices behind them as a big part of the movement's success. Ottawa, once just the host city, had become a landmark of cannabis activism in Canada.

Today, the 4/20 tradition continues—less as a protest, more as a celebration. It’s a reminder of how far Canada has come, and how everyday people standing together can influence meaningful change.

So the next time you think of Ottawa, remember: it’s not just the capital of Canada—it’s also a capital of cannabis history.
